When To Visit Emergency Room
When do I bring my child to the ER right away instead of to my pediatrician’s office?
- Babies less than 1 month old with a fever
- Fever for more than 5 days
- Difficulty breathing
- Allergic reactions where there is swelling of any part of the face, or making ‘funny sounds’ while breathing
- Poisoning: Swallowed or drank any foreign substance
- Choking
- Drowning
- Active bleeding that won’t stop
- Blue or purple skin or lips
- Broken bones
- Changes in behavior: loss of consciousness, after a head injury, suicidal thought
- Electric shocks
